Mount Gede is a mountain located on the island of Java, Indonesia. Mount Gede within the scope Pangrango Gede National Park, which is one of five national parks in Indonesia was first announced in 1980. Docters van Leeuwen (1911); and C.G.G.J. van Steenis (1920-1952) has made a collection of plants as the basis for the preparation of the book The Mountain Flora of Java, published in 1972.Mount Gede also has a diversity of ecosystems consisting of forest formations submontana, montana, subalpin; and the ecosystem of the lake, marsh, and savanna.Mount Gede famous rich in various kinds of as many as 251 species of birds of 450 species found in Java. Some of them are kind of rare bird that is Java eagle (Spizaetus bartelsi) and plop Java (Otus angelinae).National Park of Mount Gede-Pangrango defined by UNESCO as a Biosphere Reserve in 1977, and as Sister Park with State Parks in Malaysia in 1995.

History and legend that is the belief that local communities about the existence and King Siliwangi Suryakencana Grandmother in Mount Gede. People believe that the spirit of Grandmother King Siliwangi Suryakencana and will continue to maintain so as not to erupt Gunung Gede. At some point, many people who go into caves around Mount Gede to semedhi / meditate and perform religious ceremonies.
